the will of a river

these resolute and sublime souls all reminded me of what our river taught me-that if we cannot overcome obstacles, we can under come them.

one of my favorite lines in the selection, the will of a river.

at a young age, i can say that i have already been to a lot of problems/obstacles. literally a lot, whether it concerns my friends, my family, my studies or anything...an exception for that would be problems with status of my heart:)
but nonetheless, i am going to share to you one of the most unforgettable experience i had that up to this moment i give so much credit to because it helped me hone my whole being especially when dealing it problems.

during my junior year, i had a conflict with one of my classmates. i was able to witness him having a
kodigo and used it during our exams. i then decide to tell our teacher. i stand firm with what i saw and continued the battle even if his family is a big name in our institution. to prove myself, i had the chance to grab the paper and hand it over to our adviser just to attest that what i told them is not hear-say.

deliberations were made. but then, the verdict was i was also suspended for a day same with my classmate. imagine! like i also cheated...i questioned how come we have the same penalty, worst is that i was assigned in a public place while he was just assigned at our guidance center-a place seldom visited by people. okay, public humiliation was there...and i can't do anything to stop that...

the good thing about it is that even that thing happened, god works out for you and will not abandon you. he will at the end of the day certainly help you...the end of the story? i graduated with flying colors even he's expecting he should be in my place:)

when you work with all honesty, nothing and no one can come in between just to ruin your goals and dreams:)

but if his spirit is impelled and nourished by an inexhaustible power from on high, he will, in spite of all obstructions, finish his course, if not in the glory of dazzling achievement, at least in the NOBILITY OF A COMPLETED TASK FAITHFULLY DONE.

poverty destroys children

generally speaking, poverty as defined is the lack of common things like food, clothing, shelter and lack of access to education and employment.

poverty has been a problem for centuries now and sad to say, there's still a big and growing problem with this, especially now when the global economy is at its downfall.

people usually point poor governance, poor economic stability as the cause of poverty-all of which concerning to the people in authority. but, let's not put all the blame to these people because if we root it back, the major cause of this, is us, ourselves.

we are the one who elect our leaders. we make our own decisions. we have our own will but then these privileges are not used correctly and leads us to these victims of poverty.

it's a sad thing to know that majority of these victims are the innocent little kids. at an early age, they are forced to work for their family just to have something to eat. at a young age, they are deprived of the 'luxuries' a child could have, playing with toys, eating nutritious food and just enjoy life in the way how they perceive it as enjoyable but status quo shows us the other way around. these parents neglect their responsibilities as mother and father. some abandon their kids, some practice corporal punishment, some of which depends on the 'libreng lugaw' of some parishes.

these children are too young to experience the bitterness of life. they should be treated well, give them the right food, send them to school and allow them to play like normal kids do because at the end of the day, it was not and never their decision and liking to be on that situation but it's how their parents thought they could be the answer to their problem.

in summary, don't make poverty as an excuse and barrier in achieving your dreams because these children are always in jeopardy, they are the ones who suffer the consequences.

hope for peace

'oh, your from zamboanga pala?hinde ba kayo natatakot everyday?'. this is one of the questions i encounter everytime i get to compete and represent the region on national competitions or even when i attend seminar/workshops during my high school days.

honestly speaking, i am sadden with the 'tagging' of other people. they perceive zamboanga city a chaotic place, where pandemonium always takes place.

one of the teleserye that showcase this 'tagging' is tayong dalawa, starred by kim chui, gerald anderson and jake cuenca. i concede to the fact that their storyline is about the never-ending clash between the government and some of the rebelious groups(i.e ASG, MILF or NPA). i also concede to their aim/purpose for delivering 'realistic' view of the status quo.

but, media is so influential...and sometimes leads to brainwashing people's minds. i condemn how they generalize zamboanga city, how they picture out our beloved city, how they identify zamboanga as a place where terrorists assemble and plan for their next agenda/victim, and how zamboanga city a place where bombings is just a usual scenario in our place.

i just hope, not maybe today but someday, they get to realize the beauty that our peninsula possess. a city rich in culture and a city where fun-loving people live.

and i hope peace will reign in our country especially in mindanao.

now showing

i love watching movies...movies that are 26-in-one or maybe 12-in-one.
for short, i'm more interested on pirated dvd's (i am for copyright laws but i just can't help patronizing all the parades of pirated dvd's downtown...i know it's illegal but what can i do? the local government are not that strict when it comes to these violators)

the reasons why i prefer dvd's over moviehouse are as follows:

1. you get to watch 26 or maybe 12 movies, at most, with only 80 bucks compared to spending 90 for just a single show. thrifty i may sound but we should be practical : )

2. safety reasons. we all know the peace and order situation in our region, so, it's better and safer to stay at home than to be one of the possible victims of bombings.

3. sometimes i get irritated with the people who also happen to be watching the same movie as i am, especially when they scream at the top of their voices...i always end up asking, 'anu daw sabi ni (name of the artist)'...on the other hand, when you'll just watch it on your dvd players, the best side of it is that you get to rewind and go back again to the lines spilled by the artist : )

4. i can scream, shout, fall in love (or out of love), curse antagonists, praise protagonist-in short, if i'm home, i can do whatever i want since i will not consider the other people's reaction.

i concede to the fact that big screens are clearer, of good quality compared to pirated dvd's but on the other hand, i must take into considerations some factors that might somehow affect or change me at the end of the day.

for one more day

before i'll share my insights about mother/s...allow me to explain why i have 'for one more day' as a title. 'for one more day' is the title of a book, written by mitch albom. it speaks about mother's love and i've read this after experiencing the never-did-i-imagined-in-my-entire-life scenario...that's when i lost my mom:'(

it's been a year and a half since my mother died but up to this moment of creating this entry...it's seems only yesterday when we both talk about people, shop at downtown, reminisce her teenage life and talk about her ex-es. everything was just like yesterday...how i wish that yesterday will always be today.

my mother, amelia delgado, is different from the rest of her brothers and sisters. she's the only one who stepped up and chose the career of her choice. she dropped nursing and proceed to social work for a very simple reason: she believes that she can help and reach out more to the less fortunate if she's a social worker rather than if she's a nurse.

by then, i realized that my mommy's love is beyond the context of our house. while she's working at the zamboanga city medical center before as a social work, i was able to witness her dedication and her drive to somehow alleviate the problems of some patients when it comes to monetary needs.
by the time she passed away, i was able to take note of the many assistance that my mommy rendered, from the stories of some of the patients she helped, to some of her office mates she shared her lunch with
.

but aside from being a social work, an office mate, a friend...nothing can beat her as the best mom that ever lived :)

apart from those mentioned above, as a mother, she make it a point to look after our studies, our personal necessities and wants and even our relationship with our friends. she would rather buy me a new pair of shoes than to buy a new one for her (even if her feet would clamor and badly request for a new one). i remembered last time, she mentioned that she's willing to climb the coconut tree just to get some of it's fruit just to make my favorite buko salad...

that's how my mommy show her love to us...and as long as i live, i'll forever treasure and share that love to other people specially to the less fortunate :)

me? a bookworm?

Honestly speaking I really don't know if I can consider myself bookish or a bookworm for two reasons:
1. can you consider a bookworm who only read books which interests her/him? and,
2. how many books does a person need to read for him/her to be considered a bookworm?

on question number 1...I've read a lot of books
and pocketbooks, from romance to suspense, from case-solving plots to even simple works of bob ong but only because they pass my 'criteria' for a good book...what are my criteria? first, the cover should be interesting and nice, second, titles should be intriguing(intriguing? not exactly..maybe titles that will make you wonder and will motivate you to open the pages of it c: ), and lastly, the plot and the theme are inspiring, where i get to cry or maybe leave a smile on my face..something that is filled with emotions that upon closing the last page of it..you still crave to read it again : )i usually read books which revolves its theme on love and life...something i can really relate to and something that will serve as my 'motivational force' to continue with my life like my fave book---for one more day by mitch albom. this book is my little bible because i was really moved by the story and this was my confidant when the time i can't find any light...(emo? hehe:)) try to read it, it's really great...it will shed you light regarding the importance of life, time and our mothers)

on question number two, really, how many books does a person need to have or read in order to consider himself a bookworm? or numbers really don't matter as long as you read books? i don't know...can somebody answer : )

now, i still don't know if i'm a bookworm...if you have any books that might pass my criteria, feel free to lend it to me...hehe :))
